Caddo Mills High School

During Black History Month, we celebrate Shirley Chisholm, born in Brooklyn to immigrant parents from Barbados. She made history as the first Black woman elected to U.S. Congress and as the first Black woman to run for a major party’s presidential nomination. A champion for equality, nutrition, and social justice, Chisholm co-founded the Congressional Black Caucus and left a legacy of courage and trailblazing leadership.

During Black History Month, we honor Thurgood Marshall, born in Baltimore, who used the law to challenge segregation and fight for equality. As a leading attorney for the NAACP, he argued landmark cases that reshaped American justice. Nominated by Lyndon B. Johnson, he became the first Black justice on the U.S. Supreme Court. His lifelong mission—equal justice for all—continues to inspire generations to stand up for what is right.

Mrs. Spencer’s class completed CPR training and they did an outstanding job! We’re proud of these students for learning skills that truly make a difference. Way to go!

During Black History Month, we honor Marian Anderson, born in Philadelphia, whose voice and courage broke barriers. After winning a competition with the New York Philharmonic and performing at Carnegie Hall, she gained worldwide acclaim. When denied a stage by the Daughters of the American Revolution, she instead sang on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial with support from Eleanor Roosevelt; a powerful moment for equality and the arts.

During Black History Month, we honor Muhammad Ali, born in Louisville, whose greatness extended far beyond the ring. After winning Olympic gold in Rome, he became a world champion and a global voice for justice. Despite losing his titles for standing by his beliefs, he returned to defeat George Foreman in the historic Rumble in the Jungle. His courage, conviction, and legacy continue to inspire generations.

During Black History Month, we celebrate Mae Jemison, the first African American woman to travel in space. Born in Decatur and raised in Chicago, she graduated from college at 16 and later became a physician before joining NASA. Inspired by Sally Ride, Jemison broke barriers and continues to champion STEM education through innovation and leadership, proving that determination and vision can launch dreams beyond the stars.

All CMISD campuses are coming together to celebrate our talented student artists. Our Elementary and Intermediate students designed imaginative creature drawings, and our Middle School and High School students brought those creations to life by recreating them in their own artistic style!

During Black History Month, we honor Rosa Parks, whose courage changed history. On December 1, 1955, in Montgomery, she refused to give up her bus seat, sparking a movement that helped end segregation in public transportation. A lifelong activist and leader with the NAACP, Parks dedicated her life to justice—from her early studies at Alabama State University to her continued advocacy in Detroit. Her legacy reminds us that real change begins with brave action.

During Black History Month, we honor Martin Luther King Jr., whose leadership and vision helped transform a nation. Through courage, faith, and powerful words, he inspired change across the United States and led the fight for equality with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. His message of love, justice, and unity continues to challenge and inspire us to build a better future for all.

During Black History Month, we honor Jackie Robinson, who said, “A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives.” From bravely challenging segregation in the Army to breaking baseball’s color barrier with the Brooklyn Dodgers after playing for the Kansas City Monarchs, his courage changed sports and society. Praised by Martin Luther King Jr. and honored in the National Baseball Hall of Fame, his legacy continues to inspire generations.

Mr. Casper has been chosen as our CMHS Staff Member of the Month. He has taken our robotics program to the next level, leading it with high expectations from start to finish. Under his leadership, the program has shown steady growth and continues to bring home consistent tournament championships. Two of his teams earned 3rd and 4th place in the state, an incredible accomplishment. What makes this even more impressive is that many of his teams are very young, made up largely of freshmen. The future of our robotics program is incredibly bright, and his leadership is a big reason why.

Arnold Mansaray is a steady and impactful leader at CMHS. Though quiet by nature, he leads through his actions, work ethic, and the respect he shows others each day. In the classroom, Arnold is focused, responsible, and consistently sets a positive example for his peers. On the basketball court, he demonstrates team first leadership that elevates those around him. What truly sets Arnold apart is his character. He is one of the kindest and most respectful students on our campus, always treating others with courtesy and integrity. We are proud to recognize Arnold as our Student of the Month.

This past weekend, the Speech & Debate team traveled to Lindale High School. Students competed in LD Debate and Extemporaneous Speaking and learned a ton. Sydney Taylor placed 3rd overall in Persuasive Extemp. Congrats on a successful weekend and Go Foxes!
