The big Homecoming game is Friday at 7:00 (not 7:30). Be loud, be proud, and get there early! We will have overflow parking at Lee and MS with shuttles running before the game to the stadium. We also want to remind you that it would be best to have your tickets purchased ahead of time and printed off (or take a screenshot) as cellular service at the stadium can be suspect. Go Foxes!

Caddo Mills High School senior Jackson Summers poses in front of the mural he designed on Main Street on the side of Mona Lisa Pizza. The mural was unveiled on Monday. On hand for the Monday unveiling of a new mural meant to represent the town of Caddo Mills were members of the Economic Development Corp. team, the artist and designer Jackson Summers, his teacher Ashley Gandy, Caddo Mills High School football coach and athletic director Kodi Crane and Caddo Mills superintendent Luke Allison and the two women responsible for painting the mural, Carmen Slagle and Emily Angel Jacks. Caddo Mills High School senior Jackson Summers talks about the mural he designed at the unveiling on Monday. Members of the Caddo Mills economic development team helped unveil the new mural. The mural – titled HERE – was painted by Caddo Mills High School senior Jackson Summers and was done on the wall outside Mona Lisa Pizza, located at 2315 Main St. Jackson’s art teacher at the high school, Ashley Gandy was contacted about giving her students the opportunity to submit a design idea for a mural and immediately, one name came to mind. “I knew when I met this young man, Jackson Summers, as a sophomore, he was far more talented beyond his years,” Gandy said. “He and I discussed some design decisions and he drew it up. No pencil sketches, just straight to paper with a pen and a fine-tip Sharpie. He took exactly the ideas that we discussed and put them on paper, just like I knew he could.” Gandy added, “Now as a senior, he’s leaving his mark here in his hometown.” While Jackson designed the mural artwork, the task of taking his ideas and putting them on a wall was taken by Carmen Slagle and Emily Angel Jacks. The pair put in 80 hours of work – sometimes during the very hot summer days and other times in the middle of the night – getting the job of bringing Jackson’s vision to life completed in time for the unveiling on Monday. Even the meaning behind the title took some creativity on Summers’ part. He states: • The H reflects Ed Locker Stadium. Ed Locker was the football announcer for Caddo Mills for many years. When he passed away, the stadium was dedicated in his name; • The E reflects the old water tower that was one of the original towers built in Caddo Mills. It stood as a landmark for Caddo Mills for many years; • The R reflects the original Caddo Mills fox logo; • And the second E reflects the old cotton mill that still stands in the town. Back in the turn of the century, the community was known for cotton farming. “My family were original settlers in Caddo Mills and they, too, were cotton farmers in a community known as Hendricks,” Summers added. Huge THANKS to Fiestas and The Cummons Family. They wanted to spoil our kiddos who were injured Friday and they now have some gift cards for yummy meals. Sometimes the mental healing of not being on the field with your teammates is harder than the physical healing. So it’s ok to spoil them a little. Love our businesses and community!

The Caddo Mills ISD Board of Trustees approved a 19-cent tax rate decrease at the August 21 board meeting. School board members are tasked with adopting a budget and tax rate each year. The adopted Maintenance and Operation Rate went down 19 cents to $.7575 and the Interest and Sinking Rate remained unchanged at $.50 for a total tax rate of $1.2575 per $100 valuation. Maintenance and Operations funds are used for day-to-day operations of the schools with the majority going to staff salaries. Interest and Sinking funds can only be used to pay for long-term debt approved by CMISD taxpayers. CMISD Board Members take adopting the budget and tax rate very seriously and they know personally what property values have done in CMISD over the past 10 years. While values have gone up, tax rates have gone from $1.54 in 2013 to $1.2575 in 2023. School districts do not benefit from growing local property values on the M&O side of the budget. As local property values grow, the share of state funding decreases. In June, the state legislature passed SB2 and it did provide local tax relief. During the May 2023 Bond process, tax rates were expected to be $1.44 per 100 valuation. Our school district is excited to be able to lower the tax rate while still being able to keep up with our growing student population.
