WHAT IS A SCHOOL COUNSELOR?

A School Counselor is a certified, trained, and caring professional that assists students with acquiring skills they need to enhance their personal, social, and educational development. Some of the areas that I will focus on will include self-confidence, motivation to achieve, goal setting, problem solving, bullying, communication, responsible behavior and much more!

What Services can a School Counselor offer?
I provide many services at school. Some of these services include the following:

Classroom Guidance:
This service enables me to cast a wide net and present lessons to the students while in their classrooms. Guidance lessons focus a great deal on character development. Occasionally, I will send home a family/home activity for you to complete with your child. This is a great way to reinforce these important skills. Most importantly, it insures that you play a vital role in your child's character education!

Small Group Counseling:
This service enables me to facilitate positive improvement with students who share similar issues and concerns.

Individual Counseling:
Sometimes students are in need of more one on one assistance. In that case, I will confidentially visit with students on a short term basis to help them with the issue that has been brought to my attention or the concern that the student has. Please keep in mind that school counseling is a short term resource. When a student requires more in depth attention, I will be happy to help you locate other resources.

STAAR TESTING

Students at Lee Elementary will be involved with the STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness).

  • 3rd grade students will take assessments for Math and Reading.

  • 4th grade students will take assessments for Math, Reading and Writing.

The assessments will be given in the spring.

Important reminders will be sent home as those testing dates draw near.
