Mrs. Blackburn's Writing Class
Hi! thank you for visiting my web page. This is my 5th year at Kathryn Griffis Elementary and my 21st year in education. I have had the priviledge of teaching 2nd through sixth grade, gifted and talented, dyslexia and reading intervention. I am excited to continue teaching the Writing Component of Language Arts to the 4th graders this year.
Writing is going to be a fun adventure. For many students this will be their first time to have a dedicated writing class. We will be writing narrative, expository, poetry and persuasive. I believe that we learn best while having fun; therefore, we will be playing games, practicing hands on activities to apply the "Why" of revising and editing.
Spelling is also an important skill. Thursday is our Spelling Day! Students will turn in their Spelling homework and take an assessment over those words. They also will receive a new Spelling word list and new homework for the next week in the Language Arts pocket of their binder.
After all that studying and practice we need to show off! In 4th grade we will be taking the Writing STAAR Test in April. I see this test as the "BIG GAME" after all our "Practice Games" during the year. It will be a time to show what we know!
I look forward to meeting each of you! If anyone has questions, please feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 903-527-3525 during my conference.
My conference time is 1:30-2:25. We will write assignments in our daily planner as well as post important dates in Google Calendar. I will send out most general information this way.
Thank you for all your support!
